Do: Check out this video from LifeKid's Theatre about David
Ask: Has there ever been a time where you didn't do something because you thought you would look silly, or maybe other people might laugh at you.
Discuss: David understood that when we worship it is all about God, we give all of ourselves in those moments, maybe we sing really loud or even dance around like David did. David had a lot to celebrate, they were returning the Ark of the Covenant to its rightful place in Jerusalem. It was a time to praise God for all he had done for the Israelites.
Bonus: David's Story/Our Life
Ask: we talked about the Ark of the Covenant which was a golden box that symbolized God's presence among the Israelites and held his laws. Do you know what the word covenant means?
Discuss: David is now King and God is about to make a covenant with him. A covenant is a promise or commitment and God always keeps his promises. God promises David that his kingdom, his lineage (children, grandchldren and so on) will reign for eternity. Eternity is a really long time, it is longer than we can understand. Spoiler alert: Jesus would be born into David's family and Jesus secured our "eternity" in heaven with God when we believe in Him. (You can read the names of Jesus lineage in Matthew, the first book in the New Testament.)
Do: read Acts 13:22-23
But God removed Saul and replaced him with David, a man about whom God said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I want him to do.’ “And it is one of King David’s descendants, Jesus, who is God’s promised Savior of Israel!
