Week 3 "After Rest" Older/Younger Ignition

Written on 10/24/2018

Do: Watch this video about David when he was hiding from King Saul and read this week's verse and Point. https://youtu.be/41vnmcocZ1A

[If your child can read, take turns reading to each other]

Ask: What does it mean to "rest"

Discuss: We know that when we are tired and need some sleep, we call this "getting some rest." There is another type of rest, and it is the type that helps us when we are feeling yucky not just in a physical, sleepy kind of way. This type of rest is found in God, it brings a sense of peace and security that allows us "rest" when we hand all of our needs and worries over to God. He becomes our refuge, a place to find comfort and peace. David knew what it was like to be scared and unsure about his physical safety, but he also knew in his heart that he could find this refuge, or rest when he took all of his worries to God. He knew it might not always be easy, but in the middle of all of the hard stuff he could find peace and comfort with God.

Bonus:  David's Story/Our Life

Discuss:  At mc3, we believe the Bible to be God's complete, spoken Word to us and therefore is the guide for our living and understanding of who God is. There are almost a 100 times in the Bible that tell us God is our refuge. If our faith is in him, we can rest in the peace of God.

Do: Take extra  time this week, or maybe as a reference when needed, check out these verses about God as our refuge. If you have the youVersion bible app on your device, you can use the search option to find more verses.

'But you are a tower of refuge to the poor, O Lord , a tower of refuge to the needy in distress. You are a refuge from the storm and a shelter from the heat. For the oppressive acts of ruthless people are like a storm beating against a wall, or like the relentless heat of the desert. But you silence the roar of foreign nations. As the shade of a cloud cools relentless heat, so the boastful songs of ruthless people are stilled.' Isaiah 25:4-5 https://my.bible.com/bible/116/ISA.25.4-5
